Fine artists create original works of art by predominantly using paint, drawing, sculpture, but also photograph printmaking. Fine art refers to any type of visual art that is not intended for commercial purposes. This is opposed to applied art which has a practical use such as a decoration or fabric design.
As a fine artist, you may specialise in a medium and concentrate on a particular subject matter. You may also focus on a type of art, for example, landscapes, portraits or abstract art. Or you may work laterally across subjects, mediums and even disciplines to explore ideas in unexpected ways and make original connections.
